Pastor Pointer was first called and witnessed by church leaders in 1989. Since then, he has been studying under his father, Reverend David M Pointer, a minister for over 40 years. Since accepting his call, Pastor Pointer has experienced and been healed of two terminal diseases. God has miraculous protected his life! By going through these extremely life-threatening times, Pastor Pointer has personally experienced God in a special one-on-one relationship.
Pastor Pointer has been a youth group director and an assistant pastor of Grace Evangelical Church in Tampa, Florida. He has also served as an usher, an elder, finance committee member, and sound booth operator.
Pastor Pointer has been married to Elizabeth for 21 years. They met in 1986 when Jonathan moved to Tampa with his parents. They attended high school together before their marriage. They lived in Tampa, Florida before moving to Xenia in September 2005. The Pointers strongly advocate the sanctity of marriage and believe in a strong family unit. They have four children together and one grandchild.
In Florida, the Pointers provided care for medically complex foster children. Since 1992, they have cared for more than 37 children in their home. Before becoming ill, Jonathan was a manager for a large grocery chain in Florida. There he worked his way up through management at a young age and was able to manage individuals of different ages and backgrounds. Elizabeth currently works at Greene County Public Library in Xenia as a children’s librarian.
They believe the church to be an integral part of the instruction of the Lord. This comes from scripture, “thou shall teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest in thy way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up”. Deuteronomy 6:7
